LEAD hosted a “Power Breakfast” networking event on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Hotel Montana in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Attendees included LEAD-supported entrepreneurs, Haitian financial institutions, financing specialists, and representative from the Haitian government including members of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, business development service providers, and finalists from LEAD’s latest round of the Business Plan Competition.
The power breakfast was arranged to enable promising small- and medium-sized enterprises to make valuable connections with financing institutions, government entities, professionals and each other, in order to grow their businesses.
Nadia Cherrouk from PADF delivered opening remarks. Mr. Herrick Dessources from the Ministry of Commerce & Industry spoke about the importance of SMEs to the Haitian economy and described his Ministry’s programs to support this sector – including access to finance, technical assistance and an incubator/accelerator for start-ups.
Mrs. Normal Powell, from the Centre of Facilitation of Investments (CFI) spoke about the strengths of the Haitian market and invited more investors to come and invest in Haiti. CFI is a valuable resource for both foreign investors looking to launch enterprises in Haiti, as well as Haitian companies looking for additional investment capital or looking to export to foreign markets.
The networking event had over 75 attendees and was a great success. LEAD will continue to host additional networking events throughout the year.
